Nostalgia is a memory polisher

For no apparent reason, I was going through clips of the Wonder Years on YouTube, which invariably lead me watch clips from the movie Stand By Me.

I'm not quite sure how or why, but I identify with them. (Is this purely a function of growing up in the 80s?) It's not so much in that I relate to them, but I feel that the ethos that went into creating them seemed to make sense to me; I identify with the mindset of nostalgia touched slightly by a hint of melancholy. Whatever I end up writing is formed through a prism of what influenced me as a kid, and both of these loom large.

Come to think of it, the experiences we have as kids have a huge effect on how we are as adults (stating the obvious). The first experiences we have of things, be they positive or negative, influence how we perceive the next experience; the timing of a hurtful expression or an accolade can set us off on wildly different tangents.

I'm happy I don't have to be a kid again.
