I went to a town called Jim Thorpe yesterday, which is tucked into the hills of PA, about an hour from the parents' place in the Poconos. Can't believe it took me this long to hop in my car to check the place out. Cool little town! I'll be sure to make it back this summer, especially for a bike ride and to see the colors in the fall.
A couple of observations on my road trip yesterday:
* Even though I have the GPS, and it knows exactly where it is, I had no clue where I was, because I have no frame of directional reference. So, can one be lost when one knows exactly where there are?
* When I put the GPS on and direct it to tell me how to get home, I lose all sense of road-trip spontaneity and just follow what it says; I dare not disobey the GPS voice that says, "Recalculating your route." It feels like I did something wrong and now have to report to the principal's office or something. Or, maybe the GPS just wants to say, "Fine. You think you know a better route? I'm recalculating your route because you're an idiot, idiot."
* The town has a shop called Serendipity. When I was looking for a place to eat, the building I had lunch in was the former "Hotel Switzerland." Veddy Veddy interesting.
