I wasn't old enough to remember when John Lennon was shot and killed. I can't believe it's been 25 years. I remember commerorating the 10th anniversary, when they played "Imagine" in the Congress. I went up to Strawberry Field's in Central Park on the 20th anniversary. The 25th anniversary of something is always a big deal, so at the moment, it's Lennon overload.
John Lennon's Death Lingers for Witnesses
He's on the cover of a bunch of magazines, and several books have recently come out about him. They've played the Imagine(1988) documentary on HBO.
I think I've had my fill of Lennon for a while. He was a genius, a brilliant musician and artist, an influencing force, honest, sincere, and a peacenik. He was also, at times, an inconsiderate prick and an accomplished asshole.
He's also dead. Hold him as an example for peace. Take what he said and the wisdom he offered to the world and move forward toward peace and understanding. Reminiscing about the past and what could have been doesn't accomplish much. I've played that could-of, should-of game often when it comes to him, because it would be interesting to see what he'd be up to these days, but nothing can come of that, really, as it can never happen. I'm gonna take a break from Lennon for a few days. Too weighty.
