I'm currently reading "The Day the Music Died: The Last Tour of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens," and it's got me fairly well gripped. It's been sitting on my shelf for quite a while, so it was due time for me to read it. I guess I had to wait for it to get freezing in Jersey before I picked up a book that deals with a "Winter Dance Party." If you are at all interested in Buddy Holly and early rocknroll in general, I highly suggest that you check it out.
Reading this book has also made me purchase a Buddy Holly biography produced by Paul McCartney, called "The Real Buddy Holly Story." The Buddy Holly movie that came out in the late 70s wasn't especially factual, but it does have a great performance by Gary Busey. This biography tries to set the record straight, and it has interviews from the original Crickets as well as Keith Richards. Sir Paul even does a nice acoutic version of Words of Love.
Seeing video of Buddy Holly perform is well worth it, that's for sure.
I was just born at the wrong time.
