Blue skies! Fresh air!

This entire weekend was one of the best good-weather weekend I've had in Jersey, so at every opportunity I had, I tried to spend it outdoors so that I could soak up as much of the sun as possible. Bloody fantastic! I'm sure it'll start the week off on a fine note.
I finally finished the book "Honeymoon with My Brother.
I think I must get attached to the books I read. Whenever I finish one, it seems there's something like separation anxiety, especially with these travelogues. I got to go somewhere new vicariously through the writers, but at the last page, that's it. Once done, I have to go through my stack of books not yet read, which for some reason just don't seem as interesting as the one I just put down, to determine the next one on the batting order. Odd. None of the books I have seem all that interesting right now!
Does anyone have suggestions? Know of any writers like Bill Bryson or Danny Wallace that I might not be aware of?

April showers bring something

I have a leak coming from the ceiling. That's not really all that strange considering al the rain we are getting. However, the odd thing is I can't determine where the leak is coming from, as there is no corresponding leak from the attic. Actually, the attic is completely dry.
So, I have a leak that magically conjured itself almost in the exact center of the apartment, nowhere near where rain is coming in. I guess it works kind of like the "Magic Bullet" theory from the Kennedy assassination.
Or, more comedically, Seinfeld's Magic Loogie:

Cars. Shiny.

I like cars. I went to the New York Auto Show yesterday. It was fun. I took a lot of pictures.
I won't bother with longer sentences.

dot com

It's almost beyond rare that I meet anyone that has a passing familiarity with the Web site where I worked years ago, but I found out that someone I work with has a brother who was one of the first employees of The Spark, which was owned by the same company, iTurf, that owned my site, OnTap.com. Ok, so the connection is very thin, but seeing as I've never actually met anyone who ever saw the site, I'll take that tenuous connection.
The Spark was a great Web site...rather similar to The Onion, but all that's left now is something called "SparkNotes," which is basically another form of CliffsNotes.
Anyway, this guy came from the Web world, too, so we were able to share, albeit briefly, some fun little Web stories.
I sometimes miss the dot come world. At least I was able to do something creative. However, I've come to realize that the business model many of those now-defunct dot coms used, mine especially included, was questionable, at best. I just can't believe that some other company thought it was a good idea to buy the lil dot com I worked at for $20 million. Sheesh. I came too late to that party, but I was able to enjoy some of it.

I've had worse ideas

It's an interesting thing, an English degree. The direction it allows you to go is a paradox of choice: you have so many options from which to choose for your career to go that it's so hard to make up your mind, and you end up with less.
When I graduated, I had the intention of continuing on to teaching, like many of other liberal arts grads. Several people used the English degree as a springboard for law school.
Back then, I thought there'd be no way in hell I'd ever go to law school.
Fast forward a few years (ok, a decade. bite me.), and that idea doesn't sound all that bad. I might have the assertiveness of a box of paper, but I have other strenghts that could help me. Also, I'm even interested in it, oddly enough.
So, the question I ask: am I in Hell?
Ok, I still have quite a few hurdles to climb over and things to think about before I consider law school, but I can at least begin researching the LSATs and what I'd need to get into school. That seems like a decent first step.

An odd combo

The Cure team up with Ashlee Simpson
I saw this, and promptly checked outside to see if the sky was still there. It is...but barely.
What an odd combination.
On another note, the last year has been a gret time to be a Gator fan. I'd love to be in Gainesville now, as I'm sure the place is still going nuts. Two basketball championships and a football championship in 365 days? Impresseive.

Extreme!

It's nice to know there's one thing out there I can't get cynical about. I've gotten quite hooked on Extreme Makeover Home Edition...that Ty Pennington dude and his crew must be building up a huge amount of good karma with all the help they offer folks.
While I'm not kidding myself that this isn't a commercial venture, I think they are genuine in the assistance they want to offer, and it shows how generous, open, and caring the American people are.
At any rate, it's nice to start the week off on a good and hopeful note, because who knows where the rest of the week will take me.
I may not be cynical about this show, but I definitely cynical about Mondays.
