Not quite sitting still
So, today I slowly delved that book-editing project I talked of a few months back. With 60 pages waiting for me to tackle, I dutifully made it down to the library with my laptop, seeing as how I don't really like working here at home.
I was able to sit still for about an hour and a half, but at that point, I had to create an errand so I could move about a bit. Seems as though I'll need to work on that"short attention span" thing if I ever hope to get this thing done.
I did manage to put in some more time at the Panera, and I actually got into a fairly nice rhythm. It also helped that it started pouring while I was there, so that made me stay a while longer. While the free refills of soda are great, I fear I am too ramped up now to go to sleep at a reasonable hour.
I had wanted to go to the coffeeshop, but people had already commandeered the seats with easy access to outlets (my laptop's battery is, to say the least, not strong.)
I suppose the library, Small World, and Panera will be my homes away from home for the next few months while I crank away at this project.

Uh.
* What is the antonym for serendipity? I've been trying to figure this out, yet I can't seem to track down the right word, if there even is one. Maybe it's something obvious...like "Tuesday."
* I have discovered the importance of a good pair of black dress shoes. I'm usually not a person who would care about such things--frankly, I couldn't be bothered--but this conclusion comes to me as I see the soles of my favorite black shoes wear down and give the subtle suggestion that they're beginning peel off. These aren't old shoes, and they weren't necessarily cheap, so it is rather surprising. I'd like these shoes to last a while...they were uncomfortable for a while but now fit like a glove, and who'd want to see that effort go to waste.
* It's just occurred to me that I've yet to hear anyone cut the grass here. It's been nine months, and grass doesn't cut itself, so now I'm curious. It's a fairly sizable yard, front and back. Of course, now that I think of it, it's rather obvious. I'm gone ten hours a day...it clearly must be a heretofore unseen herd of sheep.

On location
It seems as though they are filming scenes here in town for Transformers 2. In one of the big parking lots of Princeton Uni. sits a fleet of trailers and RVs. There were also a line of about 5+ huge trucks parked along the side of campus.
I can't even comprehend the logistics that goes into making one of these huge Hollywood blockbusters. Someone, somewhere thinks that all this is normal.
A few years ago, I got to see Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connely as they were filming scenes for "A Beautiful Mind." That was pretty cool.

French fries and French dressing, etc
I have a thing for biopics about musicians. The latest I just saw was the movie about Edith Piaf La Vie En Rose, for which the actress who played her won the Oscar for Best Actress.
As for her, it's rare to see an actor so enveloped in a character that you don't think of the actor who plays her. So, if you want to see a movie just for a brilliant performance, I'd say check it out.
As for the movie itself, I had a hard time really getting into it. I was making a concerted effort to understand the French (it's a French flick) while reading the subtitles. Also, watching what is essentially a depressing movie like this probably works better when it's rainy and cold outside than when it's during the middle of a heat wave.
I really need to dust off my French...

Lightning
I hear lightning outside, and flashes of bright light...
One of the things I miss about the old apartment in Hopewell was having a great view for watching the occasional lightning storm that passed by. I could watch this show either through the huge windows looking out over the flat horizon of the cemetery or while in my room, laying in my bed and peeking out the window just so.
It made for great theater.
Nevertheless, even that bit of nostalgia is tinged with memories of bats in the living room.
Come to think of it, all through college, I wanted an apartment with "character," and I most certainly got it with that place.

Flying
On the way home this afternoon, I heard an intriguing ad on the radio for an introductory flight lesson offered through the Princeton Airport.
Most people who know me would consider my interest in going up in the air in a tiny Cessna or whatever to be wholly out of character; this could be because I call these things Buddy Holly death traps.
Still, something about this caught my attention. It might actually be tons of fun, and I think going up in a small plane might make the experience of flying all the more enjoyable.
I may have to pursue this.

iPhone
I had the day off from work today...instead of frying in the heat outside, I decided to stay in for some of the afternoon. And I listened to Steve Jobs give the keynote at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference so that I could here the scoop on the new iphone.
From what I saw and heard today while surfing the Web and listening to the keynote, I have a new idea of what devoted means, and I ain't it. In comparison, I'm just a casual fan.
OK. I'll live with that.
Anyway, I've been waiting on this rumored 3G iPhone for about five months, and I can't wait to get my paws on one when they come out in July. What's one more month?
It has pretty everything I wanted, minus an improved camera, plus it'll be a bit cheaper up front.
So...yay! CAn't wait til July.

Tempting time and fate
So, yesterday, I go to Target at 1030 in the morning with the intention of buying kitty litter. I go to grab one of the big 23 pounder from the shelf, and I as grab it off the shelf, the box breaks, leaving me to stare at the top of the box gripped tightly in my hand while the box falls to the ground. It landed flat and fell over, so thankfully the spill wasn't as bad as it could have been. I cleaned it up a bit and moved it to the side, and then I looked for a red and khaki clad target clad so that I could show him just how neatly the box broke and tell him where the spill was.
I made sure the mess the litter made wouldn't cause any damage, and left for the safe confines of home, not bothering to accomplish my errand. Any day that begins this is surely to go awry, so why press my luck? I'll keep the damage I inflict to a minumum, thanks.
On another note..."Find a penny, pick it up. All day long it brings good luck." I've picked up a crapload of pennies in my lifetime, yet I can't quite figure out how that habit has led to increased luck. I just don't see it. I found a nice shiny penny this evening while I was getting milk at the grocery store by my house, heads up no less. It was beckoning me to pick it up, with its new shininess and everything, but in my version of a big "F##k you" to fate, I left it where it was. If I tempt the hand of fate, it knows where to find me.
Also, another one of my little quirks is to say a wish and whatnot whenever I catch the clock at 11:11. I think I'll stop that, too. Me and time haven't been getting along all that well lately anyway.
